Does Botox Prevent Wrinkles?

Absolutely. Botox is a highly purified toxin that can temporarily eliminate or reduce horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines and crow's feet. "Injections slow down muscles that contract hundreds of times a day, eventually etching lines in the skin," says Michael Caine, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City and author of the book Botox.

Basically, whenever Botox is injected into the body, it numbs the muscles under the skin. "Botulinum toxin interferes with nerve stimulation of the muscles, resulting in excessive facial expressions," Lancer explained. "When the muscles relax, the lines decrease."

In addition to relieving frown lines between the brows, Botox also lifts the corners of the mouth that sag with age, smoothes some of the "pincushion" appearance of the chin, softens smoking lines around the mouth, and softens vertical neck cords
